PL321  Cross-Cultural Philosophy     (3.00 cr.)

Prerequisite: PL201 and one additional PL200-level course. What are the unique challenges and opportunities for philosophy in an age of cross-cultural encounter? Are there other methods and aims of philosophizing than those developed in the West? How do cultural and linguistic differences affect the way we think? Some of the fundamental issues involved in doing comparative philosophy are examined. Texts from both Western and Asian authors are used, including some from the Kyoto School of modern Japanese philosophy. IA
